Job Overview

The UC International Services Office is looking for an International Services Advisor to join a team of twelve full-time professionals dedicated to overseeing immigration matters for F-1 and J-1 exchange visitors. This position will report directly to the Assistant Director of International Services, and to the Associate Director of International Services, and ultimately to the Director of Immigration Services and Compliance within UC International Services. The position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all other activities. UC International is the university-wide unit, within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost, responsible for serving international students and scholars, education abroad students, as well as the development of the university's international strategic planning initiatives.

The International Services Advisor will advise international students and scholars on immigration and visa matters, serve as a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer for F-1 and J-1 programs, and assist with the planning and coordinating of all office programs and activities. UC International Services uses the Sunapsis International Office platform for business practices and SEVIS compliance. The International Services Advisor will utilize the Sunapsis International Office system (internally branded iBearcatsGlobal) to process immigration benefits and documents for F-1 students and J-1 scholars. The position will be responsible for SEVIS reporting, compliance, and student/scholar case management and will need to liaise with International Admissions, The Graduate School, One Stop, Academic Advising, faculty, staff, and other relevant stakeholders. The position will also need to provide general support for international students and make appropriate referrals to students requiring professional help. The International Services Advisor will assist with the development and implementation of unit programs including immigration check-in, workshops, retreats and other social/cultural programs. It will also be required to perform related duties based on department need.

Starting salary range for the position is $50,000 - $53,500 based on education and experience level. There is a possibility to work remotely 2-3 days per week once trained.

Essential Functions

  • Advise international students and scholars on immigration policies, procedures and concerns.
  • Assist international students and scholars with applying for work permits, change of status and reinstatement.
  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 SEVIS system.
  • Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 SEVIS system.
  • Make appropriate referrals to students requiring professional help. (i.e., provide information on community resources).
  • Serve as liaison with faculty/staff regarding student needs, and with government agencies.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Twelve (12) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications

Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident to engage in DSO or ARO duties.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience serving as a Designated School Official or Responsible Officer.
  • Knowledge of best practices in international higher education and/or providing services to international students.
  • Ability to interact with students, administrators, and others in a highly professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy in data entry and organization along with managing multiple databases.
  • Experience using the Sunapsis International Office platform.

Salary/Hourly Pay Rate Information: $50,000 - $53,500
