Microsoft Infrastructure Engineer/ Architect

Microsoft Infrastructure Engineer to lead the design, engineering, security, automation, and continuous improvement of enterprise Microsoft infrastructure services. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of core platforms, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange, Microsoft 365, and VMware virtualization environments.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can balance strategic infrastructure planning with day-to-day operational support. This person will serve as a senior escalation resource, drive modernization initiatives, improve automation and operational maturity, and partner closely with infrastructure, security, application, and business teams to deliver highly available and secure technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support enterprise infrastructure platforms, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, Microsoft 365, DNS, DHCP, file services, identity services, and VMware virtualization environments.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure standards, architecture roadmaps, configuration baselines, and operational procedures that support security, scalability, reliability, and business continuity.
  • Lead infrastructure modernization efforts, upgrades, migrations, and cloud integration initiatives across Microsoft and virtualization technologies.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure projects, from planning and architecture through implementation and operational support.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex Windows, Microsoft 365, identity, and virtualization issues, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and major incident response.
  • Implement and maintain security best practices, including system hardening, patch management, access controls, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and enhance automation using PowerShell and other infrastructure automation tools to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
  • Manage and optimize VMware environments, including capacity planning, lifecycle management, performance tuning, and high availability configurations.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, availability, performance, and capacity, proactively identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support disaster recovery, backup, recovery, and business continuity initiatives for critical infrastructure services.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, support procedures, and knowledge base content.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve security, resiliency, efficiency, and overall platform performance.
  • Partner with infrastructure, security, networking, and application teams to ensure enterprise systems integrate effectively and support business objectives.
  • Mentor engineers and administrators by sharing best practices, reviewing technical approaches, and promoting consistent operational standards.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience supporting, engineering, and administering large-scale Microsoft infrastructure environments.
  • Deep expertise with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Entra ID, and Exchange Online/Hybrid environments.
  • Strong experience administering Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, identity, and collaboration platforms.
  • Extensive experience supporting VMware vSphere environments, including vCenter, ESXi, clustering, high availability, virtualization lifecycle management, and performance optimization.
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
  • Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments that integrate on-premises technologies with cloud services.
  • Strong understanding of identity and access management, cybersecurity principles, least-privilege administration, logging, monitoring, patching, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience with backup and recovery solutions, disaster recovery planning, monitoring platforms, endpoint management, and enterprise infrastructure operations.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, Azure DevOps, or similar automation technologies.
  • Working knowledge of IT service management processes, including incident, problem, change, and configuration management.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and lead resolution efforts during high-impact incidents.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance project work, operational responsibilities, and continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience architecting and supporting enterprise-scale Microsoft and VMware environments.
  • Experience with Azure infrastructure, hybrid cloud technologies, and cloud migration initiatives.
  • Microsoft certifications related to Azure, Microsoft 365, Security, Identity, or Windows Server.
  • VMware certifications or equivalent virtualization experience.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across infrastructure teams.



Compensation

$65.00-$80.00 Hourly
