Accounting Specialist

Position Overview

A local city agency is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk / Accounting Technician to support daily financial and accounting operations. This role is ideal for a professional with public sector accounting experience and hands-on knowledge of Tyler ERP. The selected candidate will assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, data entry, and financial record maintenance while ensuring accuracy and compliance with agency procedures.

Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities

• Process invoices, payment requests, and accounts payable transactions
• Maintain accounts receivable records and assist with collections as needed
• Reconcile accounts, ledgers, and financial statements
• Enter and update accounting data in Tyler ERP
• Assist with month-end closing activities and reporting
• Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
• Review financial records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
• Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding account activity
• Support audits and provide documentation as requested
• Perform general clerical and administrative duties related to accounting operations

Qualifications

• 2+ years of accounting support, bookkeeping, or financial operations experience
• Experience working in a city, municipal, county, or other public sector environment preferred
• Proficiency with Tyler ERP required or strongly preferred
• Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger support
• Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard office applications
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
