Payroll Specialist

A well-established organization in Colma is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations during a critical period. This role requires a hands-on payroll professional with experience processing high-volume, bi-weekly payroll for 200+ employees and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payroll execution.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, can work independently, and has a strong understanding of payroll regulations, payroll systems, and employee record management. Experience supporting a public sector, government, or nonprofit organization is highly preferred.

• Process bi-weekly payroll for 200+ employees accurately and on time.
• Review payroll data, timesheets, earnings, deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings.
• Maintain payroll records and employee data within the payroll system.
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries.
• Reconcile payroll reports and assist with payroll audits.
• Prepare payroll-related journal entries and support month-end close activities.
• Coordinate with HR and Finance to ensure payroll changes are properly documented and processed.
• Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and reporting.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of payroll processing experience.
• Required: Experience processing bi-weekly payroll for 200+ employees.
• Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, garnishments, and payroll compliance.
• Experience using payroll platforms such as ADP, UKG, Ceridian, Paycom, Paylocity, or similar systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, and reporting.
• High attention to detail and ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Public sector, government, or nonprofit payroll experience is highly preferred.
