Job Description
The Journeyman Electrician will support the operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical systems within a secure government facility environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of facility electrical infrastructure, supporting mission-critical operations and occupant safety.
The Journeyman Electrician performs a broad range of electrical maintenance and construction tasks, including troubleshooting electrical distribution systems, installing equipment, conducting preventive maintenance, and responding to service calls. The ideal candidate is a safety-focused professional with a strong technical background and experience working in commercial, institutional, industrial, or government facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and components.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution systems, panels, switchgear, lighting systems, motors, transformers, and associated equipment.
- Diagnose electrical problems and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct electrical testing, inspections, and system evaluations to verify performance and reliability.
- Support facility renovation, upgrade, and construction projects involving electrical systems.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and documentation.
- Coordinate with facility managers, engineers, contractors, and other trades to support facility operations.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests and support mission-critical electrical operations as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a US Citizen
- Active Top Secret Security Clearance.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Journeyman Electrician License (or equivalent state-recognized electrical license).
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial or industrial electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory, National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical distribution systems and equipment.
- Proficiency using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety.
- Experience supporting federal, Department of State, Department of Defense, or other secure government facilities.
- Experience working with emergency power systems, generators, UPS systems, and mission-critical infrastructure.
- Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS), energy management systems, and facility controls.
- Additional certifications related to electrical maintenance, safety, or facility operations.
