International Student Advisor
Overview
Responsibilities
Federal regulatory immigration advising:
• Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 program under the Department of Homeland Security and as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 Exchange Visitor program under the Department of State.
• Serve as an advisor for a designated advising case load from pre-arrival through post-graduation, including change of status and work authorization.
• Maintain weekly scheduled drop-in advising hours for the international student community.
• Monitor and analyze updates in federal immigration regulations as it relates to F and J students and their dependent(s).
• Develop advising resources on regulatory issues related to international students.
• In close collaboration with the Associate Director, review various Princeton policies and procedures in light of changes and trends in the U.S. federal immigration landscape.
• Work effectively and cooperatively with other advisors and staff to ensure university compliance with aII aspects of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), as required by Federal Law.
Reporting and Data Collection:
• Review, process, and complete student immigration requests, in addition to creating and updating immigration documents.
• In collaboration with the Compliance Manager and Associate Director, develop and monitor Sunapsis workflow and processes, including updating student records and issuing documents.
• Maintain timely and accurate work processes to ensure the integrity of data entry and regulatory timeframes are met.
Programming and other duties:
• Contributes to Davis International Center engagement efforts, including the coordination and presentation of immigration workshops.
• Contributes to orientation activities, pre-arrival and post-arrival information, communication, and presentations, and other Davis IC-sponsored activities.
• Co-lead immigration presentations throughout the academic year.
• Act as liaison with campus partners, serve on campus committees, and conduct trainings and workshops.
• Update and create content for Davis IC website and other presentation and frontward-facing platforms.
• Exercise good judgment and decision making on behalf of Princeton and its international community.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support strategic priorities for the Davis IC.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of relevant experience
• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident as required for DSO and ARO roles described above.
• Must pass periodic criminal background checks as required by federal regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
