Job Summary

Work Control is a multidisciplinary team that provides essential support to all Facility Operations Directorates (FODs), including maintenance planning, scheduling, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support. Job Summary
SMSI is seeking experienced Work Control Planners to support activities at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Work Control is a multidisciplinary team that provides essential support to all Facility Operations Directorates (FODs), including maintenance planning, scheduling, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support. The team utilizes an Integrated Work Management approach to plan, schedule, and execute work safely, efficiently, and securely.
This is an onsite position in Los Alamos, New Mexico, with a 4/10 work schedule (four 10-hour days per week). Long-term travel opportunities are also available. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a mission-critical environment while supporting the important work of LANL.
Responsibilities
- Develop and review work packages, including time, material, and labor estimates.
- Prepare detailed, step-by-step work instructions, procedures, safety requirements, and post-maintenance testing requirements.
- Plan and coordinate operations, maintenance, construction, and modification activities within assigned facilities or areas.
- Develop work packages for mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiological equipment and systems.
- Resolve work restraints and coordinate required actions to bring work packages to final closure.
- Develop, monitor, and validate the accuracy of performance data, reports, and statistical information.
- Audit performance data and reporting to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established requirements.
- Maintain databases, software programs, and other data-management systems used to support performance measurements and reporting.
- Evaluate maintenance processes, programs, and procedures to identify opportunities for improvement and increased efficiency.
- Develop, maintain, and update maintenance policies, processes, and procedures.
- Provide training and program support to ensure effective implementation and execution of maintenance activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/ Abilities
- Extensive experience interpreting mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
- Extensive knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting work control and planning.
- Extensive knowledge of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and lockout/tagout policies and procedures in unique or complex facilities.
- Specialized knowledge and experience in work control, materials management, and/or mechanical maintenance.
- Extensive experience conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to work control and planning issues.
- Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of work control and planning for unique or complex activities to both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Ability to provide mentorship and training to less experienced work control personnel.
- Ability to utilize and manipulate computerized work management systems to maintain and track work planning activities.
- Exceptional skill in preparing and presenting work control reports.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients, contractors, and consultants.
- Ability to support 24/7 shift work.
- Active REAL ID-compliant driver's license required for badging and onboarding.
Desired Skills
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Laboratory's work control and facility policies, practices, and procedures.
- Experience in nuclear facility maintenance or construction planning.
- Active Q clearance.
Education
- Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected. DOE Order 426.2 Minimum Requirements: Position requires a high school diploma.
Physical Requirements:
