Media Relations Specialist

We are looking for a Media Relations Specialist to support strategic communications efforts for an organization based in Houston, Texas. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a communications specialist who can shape compelling stories, build strong media relationships, and deliver high-quality written content that strengthens public visibility. The role focuses on developing press materials, coordinating outreach to journalists, and helping maintain a consistent and credible public voice across external communications.

Responsibilities:
• Create persuasive media outreach materials that generate interest from reporters, editors, and other external audiences.
• Write and refine press releases, media statements, and related communication pieces to ensure clarity, accuracy, and brand alignment.
• Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with media contacts to expand coverage opportunities and support ongoing publicity efforts.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather information, identify newsworthy developments, and translate them into effective public-facing messaging.
• Monitor media activity, track coverage results, and provide updates on outreach performance and visibility trends.
• Support broader public relations initiatives by helping manage timelines, priorities, and communication deliverables across multiple projects.
• Apply strong editorial judgment to review content for tone, consistency, and appropriateness before distribution.
• Contribute to account service and communications support activities that help maintain responsive and effective external relations.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in media relations, public relations, or journalism-focused communications work.
• Strong ability to draft press releases, media pitches, and other external communication materials with precision and professionalism.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, with a clear command of grammar, tone, and audience-appropriate messaging.
• Proven success building relationships with media contacts and securing attention through thoughtful outreach.
• Experience managing multiple assignments at once while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to translate complex or detailed information into concise, engaging content for public distribution.
• Background in account service or client-facing communications support is preferred.
• Sound judgment, organizational skills, and attention to detail in all written and verbal communications.

Compensation

$39.59-$45.84 Hourly
