Front Desk Coordinator

Compensation: $23 Hourly

We are looking for a Front Desk Coordinator to support a nonprofit organization serving veterans in San Francisco, California. This Contract position will be the first point of contact at the Veterans Community Center, helping create a respectful and welcoming experience for visitors seeking services and support. The ideal candidate brings compassion, professionalism, and the ability to communicate calmly with individuals facing complex life challenges.

Responsibilities:
• Welcome veterans, guests, and community partners as they arrive and provide courteous front-desk support throughout their visit.
• Respond to questions, share clear information about available programs, and guide visitors to the appropriate staff or services.
• Maintain an orderly reception area that promotes safety, comfort, and a positive experience for everyone entering the center.
• Interact with visitors in a trauma-informed manner, especially when supporting individuals experiencing stress, crisis, or emotional difficulty.
• Coordinate with case managers, counselors, legal staff, and other onsite team members to help visitors access timely assistance.
• Observe activity in the lobby and common areas, addressing concerns appropriately to help preserve a calm environment.
• Communicate professionally with a diverse population while demonstrating patience, empathy, and sound judgment in daily interactions.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience in front desk operations, reception, customer service, or community-facing support roles.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage respectfully with individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences.
• Demonstrated ability to remain composed and attentive during sensitive or high-pressure situations.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and a consistently compassionate, nonjudgmental approach.
• Experience supporting veterans, unhoused individuals, or people affected by behavioral health challenges is highly valued.
• Ability to use conflict de-escalation techniques and respond thoughtfully to emotionally charged interactions.
• Commitment to maintaining a welcoming, trauma-informed environment in an onsite service setting.

Compensation

$23.00-$23.00 Hourly
