Assistant Controller
We are looking for an Assistant Controller to help oversee accounting operations and support sound financial management for a growing organization in Waverly, Nebraska. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate records, improving reporting reliability, and strengthening day-to-day accounting practices. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical judgment, a hands-on approach to problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate across teams to improve financial processes.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee fixed asset records by managing capitalization, tracking activity, reconciling balances, and processing retirements or disposals accurately.
• Maintain depreciation schedules and ensure related expense recognition is recorded correctly for timely and reliable financial reporting.
• Prepare and review accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, and other core activities that support an efficient month-end close.
• Analyze accounting results to identify variances, research discrepancies, and resolve issues before they affect reporting accuracy.
• Support the preparation of financial reports while ensuring alignment with company standards, internal policies, and applicable compliance requirements.
• Work closely with operational stakeholders to refine accounting workflows, improve consistency, and reinforce internal controls.
• Contribute to system enhancements, integrations, and process improvement efforts that increase efficiency and support scalable accounting operations.
• Create and maintain clear accounting procedures and documentation to support organizational growth and standardize best practices.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and special projects as business needs evolve.
• Identify opportunities to automate recurring tasks and streamline workflows to improve productivity across the accounting function.
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of accounting or finance experience, including substantial exposure to general ledger activity and month-end close.
• Demonstrated experience with fixed asset accounting, depreciation management, and accrual-based accounting practices.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting principles, account reconciliations, and internal control concepts.
• Experience supporting financial statement audits and preparing documentation for audit or compliance review.
• Proficiency with Sage 100 or comparable accounting software, along with strong spreadsheet and data analysis skills.
• Ability to investigate accounting discrepancies, recommend solutions, and implement process improvements effectively.
Compensation
