Sr. Accountant
Responsibilities:
• Produce monthly financial statements and reporting deliverables for an assigned portfolio while maintaining accuracy and timeliness throughout the close cycle.
• Review accounting work completed for property-level close activities and follow up with property management teams to resolve discrepancies or outstanding items.
• Prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and manage core accounting records for each property under responsibility.
• Assemble quarterly, annual, and stakeholder-specific reporting packages and respond to additional financial information requests as needed.
• Partner with accounts payable to confirm invoice coding is aligned with property accounting requirements and reporting standards.
• Coordinate annual audit support by organizing requested documentation, answering auditor questions, and tracking open items through completion.
• Support development-stage and newly closing properties by completing accounting tasks related to setup, funding activity, and readiness for ongoing reporting.
• Assist with financing-related activities, including tracking documentation for capital contributions and supporting the conversion of construction debt to permanent financing.
• Calculate annual surplus cash distributions for stabilized assets and contribute to other accounting areas such as treasury and corporate reporting when needed.
• Provide mentorship and training to Staff Accountants and share best practices across portfolio accounting processes.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.• At least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a senior-level or portfolio-based role.
• Hands-on property accounting experience is required, including work with multifamily assets and monthly close processes.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Excel at an intermediate level or higher.
• Experience with real estate or property management platforms such as RealPage, Yardi, or similar accounting systems is preferred.
• Familiarity with Low Income Housing Tax Credit environments, public accounting, or construction-related accounting software such as Sage 300 Construction is a plus.
• Ability to complete pre-employment screening requirements as part of the hiring process.
