Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a growing real estate and property management organization in San Francisco, California. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist with at least three years of experience who can balance accuracy, organization, and strong communication across multiple projects. The person in this role will contribute to day-to-day accounting operations, support month-end and year-end close activities, and help deliver reliable financial reporting for management decision-making.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee purchase order and development contract workflows, ensuring approvals are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
• Review outgoing payments to confirm expenses align with approved project and operating budgets.
• Administer accounts receivable activities by preparing invoices, posting incoming payments, and keeping customer and tenant balances current.
• Track outstanding receivables, investigate aging items, and work with property management partners to support collection efforts.
• Reconcile accounts receivable records to the general ledger each month and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Assist with monthly close procedures, including reconciliations related to project activity, work in process, recurring entries, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare financial reporting packages such as budget-to-actual job cost analysis, balance sheets, income statements, cash flow forecasts, and variance summaries for leadership review.
• Analyze general ledger activity, reconcile intercompany balances, and prepare supporting entries for consolidated financial statement review.
• Maintain complete accounting documentation in Yardi and related internal records, and provide audit support during year-end review activities.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of accounting experience in a staff or senior accountant capacity.

• Yardi Voyager or similar software experience

• Prior experience working in Commercial or Housing Property Management

• Hands-on experience with journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.

• Background in property accounting, commercial property management, or a related real estate environment.

• Familiarity with accounts receivable processes, financial reporting, and month-end close support.

• Ability to review budgets, analyze variances, and maintain accurate supporting documentation.

• Experience working with accounting systems such as Yardi or comparable property management software.

• Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a detail-oriented approach to handling confidential financial information.

Compensation

$32.00-$36.00 Hourly
