Senior GL Accountant

Oakland, CA 94612, US Temporary
Compensation: $40 to $50 Hourly

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior General Ledger Accountant with non-profit accounting experience to join their finance team. This role will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial reports, supporting month-end and year-end close, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit and grant accounting requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in grant accounting, nonprofit fund accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and general ledger management. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can work collaboratively across departments and help ensure accurate financial stewardship of restricted and unrestricted funds.


Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and monthly account reconciliations
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Support preparation of financial statements and internal management reports
  • Oversee grant accounting, including tracking restricted funds, grant expenditures, and compliance with donor and funding requirements
  • Perform nonprofit fund accounting activities, including proper allocation and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Assist with audit preparation and support annual financial statement audits
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Analyze variances and research discrepancies to resolve issues promptly
  • Partner with program and operations teams to support budget monitoring and grant reporting
  • Help improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including significant general ledger accounting experience
  • Required: Nonprofit accounting experience
  • Required: Experience with grant accounting and fund accounting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting requirements, including ASC 958-605
  • Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Proficiency in Sage Intacct, Netsuite, or MIP and Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with multiple grants and funding sources
  • Familiarity with donor restrictions, grant compliance, and audit support
  • Experience in a fast-paced nonprofit or mission-driven organization



Compensation

$40.00-$50.00 Hourly
