Position Summary: 

The Director, Global Congress Strategy, ID/Early Assets in the Global Scientific Communications organization is responsible for driving long term and annual congress planning across Infectious Diseases and Early Pipeline Assets across the Vaccines and Specialty Therapy Areas (TAs). This strategic role will be pivotal in driving the development of TA-level congress strategies and plans, sponsorship decisions, and congress narratives to enable impactful future planning and the effective execution of all congress-related deliverables. This role will ensure that all narratives and plans are aligned within the asset and across the TA, partnering closely with Medical and Commercial teams for delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the long term and annual planning of early asset integration into disease area congress planning, identifying opportunities for early pipeline presence within existing GSK congress plans and potential future entries

  • Lead the long term and annual congress planning process for infectious diseases, ensuring alignment with the overall medical and commercial strategy

  • Drive TA-level congress planning and decision-making, including sponsorship decisions and aligning with the Sci Comms Content team on requirements for creation of scientific narratives

  • Ensure all congress narratives and plans are aligned within the asset and across the TA, partnering closely with Medical and Commercial teams to deliver cohesive and strategic congress programs and outputs

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure delivery of congress plans on strategy

  • Provide strategic insights into the appropriate content needed to articulate the narrative within the context of broader medical and commercial strategies

  • Deliver medical leadership and consistent excellence in congressing through society relationships and partnership with local markets and cross-functional partners.

  • Evaluate and shape congress key performance indicators (KPIs) in partnership with the Channel Integration and Analytics team and share insights with teams to continually refine approaches, priorities, and investments.

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant codes and system requirements (e.g. ABPI code of practice, GSK Code), particularly with respect to the communication of promotional versus non-promotional information.

  • Gather and share best practices across global congresses to ensure consistency, high standards, and excellence are maintained across the organization.

  • Stay updated on advancements in congressing to ensure approaches evolve with the external landscape.

Why You!

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in science, medicine, pharmacy, communications or a related field.

  • Strong experience in scientific communications and/or congress planning and execution, with extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical congress industry, codes and practices               

  • Demonstrated experience working with Medical and Commercial teams to deliver aligned and impactful outcomes.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans and narratives, including innovative technology tools to articulate scientific narratives

  • Strong understanding of external stakeholders including physicians, payers and patients within the specific TA

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with external vendors and internal stakeholders through excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to share insights to shape strategic approaches and investments.

  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and present complex data to a broad range of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Postgraduate degree (PhD or PharmD).

  • Local, regional, or global medical or R&D experience with relevant expertise in therapeutic area.

  • Scientific communication strategies for large global markets in US, UK, EU, China and Japan

Work arrangement
This role is hybrid. You will be based in the United Kingdom with an expectation of 2/3 days per week in the office.
