Overview:

The Setup Technician supports safe and accurate tool changes, cell startups, equipment readiness, and production support within the Vacuum Forming department. This is a hands-on production role that supports the shift by verifying critical setup items, helping reduce startup issues, and supporting the team-based setup process.

When setup work is not required, this role supports production, minor PM tasks, 5S, and deeper cleaning activities around vacuum formers, robots, tooling areas, and assigned equipment.

Key Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)

1. Setup, Changeover & Startup Support

· Safely remove, install, and verify tools in vacuum forming equipment according to established procedures.

· Verify the correct tool, ring set location, machine program, temperature zones, cycle timing, fixtures, and setup requirements prior to startup.

· Support startup, shutdown, first-piece run-off, and quality verification requirements.

· Use approved lift assist devices, cranes, forklifts, and setup equipment safely.

· Identify and communicate setup concerns, delays, or abnormal conditions to the Team Leader and Group Leader.

2. Team-Based Setup & Production Support

· Support Team Leaders, Operators, and Production Team members during changeovers and startups.

· Help train team members on assigned setup tasks, safe tool handling, and standard work expectations.

· Operate vacuum forming equipment or assist the production team when setup work is not required.

· Support shift priorities while maintaining focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

3. Equipment Care, Minor PM & 5S Activities

· Perform assigned minor PMs, 5S activities, and deeper cleaning around vacuum formers, robots, tooling areas, fixtures, guards, and related equipment using approved checklists and standards.

· Maintain tooling, setup areas, tool storage, and assigned equipment locations in a clean, organized manner; coordinate with Maintenance as needed for tooling repairs.

· Escalate abnormal equipment, robot, tooling, or machine conditions to Group Leaders and Maintenance.

4. Communication, Continuous Improvement, Engineering

· Communicate setup status, equipment concerns, 5S issues, and follow -up needs to the Team Leader and Group Leader.

· Support shift-to-shift communication and help maintain consistency between shifts.

· Participate in huddles, Gemba walks, CI initiatives (Kaizens, Katas), engineering tryouts or other daily management activities as required

Qualifications & Requirements:

· High School Diploma or equivalence; manufacturing or production experience required.

· Experience with production setup, tooling, machine operation, maintenance support, or similar technical work preferred.

· Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand equipment setup requirements, machine settings, and basic equipment conditions.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Self-motivated and capable of working independently with limited direction.

· Ability to safely operate and obtain certification for forklift, crane, scissor lift, lockout/tagout, or other required equipment/processes.

· Good communication, dependability, and ability to support production needs, including overtime or weekend support as needed.

Must be able to:

· Work in tight spaces around equipment, machines, robots, tooling, and guarded areas.

· Lift, bend and reach, including below waist level and above shoulder level

· Lift, push and pull weights of up to 30lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally

· Work around hot surfaces, moving equipment, forklifts, and high-noise environment.

· Use hands to manipulate parts, tooling, fixtures, machine controls, and cleaning tools.

· Work flexible schedules, including coming in early, staying into the next shift, daily overtime, or weekend support as needed.
