Attorney/Lawyer

We are looking for an experienced attorney to join a litigation practice serving clients in California. This role focuses on handling defense matters involving public entities and insurance-related claims, with a caseload that may include sensitive abuse matters, premises liability disputes, and personal injury cases. The position offers flexibility in work arrangement based on experience and provides the opportunity to work with a collaborative legal team that values autonomy and work-life balance.

Attorneys will be able to work remote after settling in; attorneys experienced with public entity defense may be able to start remote if they are not local to Riverside.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a docket of civil litigation matters from initial case assessment through resolution, balancing case volume based on complexity.

• Prepare and file legal pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court documents in support of defense strategies.

• Conduct all phases of discovery, including drafting written responses, propounding requests, and evaluating produced materials.

• Represent clients at hearings, depositions, and other litigation proceedings while advancing case strategy effectively.

• Coordinate trial preparation activities, including witness preparation, exhibit review, and development of case themes.

• Handle matters involving public entity defense, with a significant portion of the caseload related to abuse or assault allegations, along with premises and injury claims.

• Maintain accurate time entry and billing documentation to support case management and reporting expectations.

• Collaborate with attorneys, support staff, and paralegal support to move matters forward efficiently in a primarily remote or hybrid environment.

• Adapt to evolving office operations, including remote work arrangements during office renovation activities.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of civil litigation experience as a practicing attorney.
• Active license to practice law and ability to handle litigation matters independently.
• Demonstrated experience drafting motions, briefs, pleadings, and other litigation documents.
• Strong working knowledge of discovery practice, hearings, depositions, and trial preparation.
• Background in insurance defense, public entity defense, or plaintiff-side work involving claims against public entities is highly valued.
• Familiarity with timekeeping or billing practices in a law firm environment is preferred.
• Experience with personal injury defense matters and broader civil litigation strategy is strongly preferred.

Compensation

$140,000.00-$180,000.00 Yearly
