Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a Contract position based in New York, New York. This role will handle day-to-day financial activities, maintain accurate records, and contribute to timely reporting and tax-related processes. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals and can work effectively across general ledger, journal entry preparation, and corporate tax responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
• Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial activity is captured accurately and on schedule.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, investigating discrepancies and resolving issues promptly.
• Support corporate tax activities, including assisting with tax return preparation and related documentation.
• Manage sales tax processes by reviewing transactions, tracking obligations, and helping ensure timely filings.
• Participate in month-end and periodic close activities to deliver complete and accurate financial reporting.
• Analyze accounting data and supporting records to improve accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather financial information and address accounting questions as they arise.

Qualifications:

• Experience working in a staff accounting or similar accounting support role.
• Working knowledge of corporate tax principles and tax return preparation.
• Familiarity with sales tax procedures and related compliance requirements.
• Ability to prepare journal entries and maintain accurate financial records.
• Experience reconciling and managing general ledger accounts.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and review accounting data effectively.
• Proficiency in standard accounting processes and meeting deadlines in a detail-focused environment.

Compensation

$28.00-$33.00 Hourly
