Sr. Accountant

Compensation: $33.25 to $38.50 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a Financial Services organization in New York, New York. This Long-term Contract position will play a key role in strengthening accounts payable operations, supporting accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong vendor and internal business relationships. The ideal candidate brings a solid background in general ledger activity, reconciliations, accruals, and accounts payable, along with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Lead end-to-end accounts payable activities, including reviewing invoices, assigning proper coding, obtaining approvals, and ensuring disbursements are processed accurately.
• Oversee the daily AP intake and follow-up workflow so questions are resolved promptly and payment timelines are consistently met.
• Serve as a primary escalation point for vendor matters, building positive relationships and addressing billing or payment concerns effectively.
• Uphold adherence to company policies and internal control standards across all payable and accounting processes.
• Manage month-end close work tied to accounts payable, including reconciling the AP subledger to the general ledger and reviewing supporting balance sheet schedules.
• Evaluate invoice-related reconciliations and accrual aging analyses to confirm completeness, accuracy, and proper period recognition.
• Administer 1099 reporting obligations and help ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and tax requirements.
• Provide audit support by preparing documentation, responding to information requests, and assisting with internal and external review processes.
• Partner with Purchasing, Treasury, and broader Accounting teams to address discrepancies, improve workflows, and remove operational bottlenecks.

Qualifications:

• Strong experience in accounts payable, including full-cycle invoice processing, payment execution, and issue resolution.
• Hands-on knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and accrual-based financial activities.
• Demonstrated ability to support month-end close and maintain accuracy in AP subledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Familiarity with 1099 reporting requirements and compliance-related documentation.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis, reconciliation, and reporting tasks.
• Ability to work effectively with vendors and cross-functional internal teams in a detail-focused financial services environment.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies efficiently.

Compensation

$33.25-$38.50 Hourly
