Manager / Senior Manager / Director, Artist Budget & Expense
We are looking for an experienced finance leader to oversee artist budgeting and expense operations in San Francisco, California. This role will guide core accounting activities, strengthen financial accuracy, and support timely reporting across a dynamic business environment. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to manage detailed financial processes while partnering effectively with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and strengthen internal controls to prevent fraud, overspending, and compliance risks.
- Identify process weaknesses and improve expense, approval, and governance procedures.
- Perform audits and high-risk expense reviews to detect billing errors, duplicate charges, and irregular activity.
- Monitor spending trends and enforce policies through financial controls and compliance oversight.
- Review and approve invoices, ensuring alignment with approved artist budgets and scopes.
- Track and code recoupable expenses accurately.
- Oversee travel programs, expense management, and BREX transaction reconciliation.
- Lead and mentor budget and travel teams while promoting accountability and efficiency.
- Partner with Finance, Accounting, AP, and other stakeholders to support compliance and operational goals.
- Build scalable processes and governance frameworks that support growth and strengthen fraud prevention.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field; CFE/CIA credentials preferred.
- 5+ years in finance, audit, controls, or budget management, including team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of audits, fraud prevention, risk assessment, and financial controls.
- Advanced Excel skills with experience in BREX, travel expense platforms, and ERP/AP systems.
- Detail-oriented, ethical, collaborative, and able to enforce policies effectively.
- Adaptable mindset with a focus on process improvement and operational efficiency.
- Entertainment, media, or music industry experience, including artist budgets and recoupable costs, is a plus.
Compensation
