Staff Accountant – Commercial Construction

A growing commercial construction company in San Marcos is looking for a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This position is ideal for someone who has moved beyond entry-level accounting and is ready to take ownership of reconciliations, month-end close, job costing, and project-related financial reporting.

You'll work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Accounting leadership, giving you visibility into both the accounting side and operational side of the business.

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and support monthly close
• Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Maintain general ledger accounts and supporting schedules
• Assist with project accounting and job-cost tracking
• Review project expenses and investigate variances
• Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities
• Assist with subcontractor and vendor accounting
• Prepare monthly financial reports and account analysis
• Maintain accrual, prepaid, and fixed asset schedules
• Assist with WIP reporting and project financial analysis
• Support annual audits and year-end accounting activities
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes

Qualifications:

• 2–4 years of progressive accounting experience
• Construction or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Strong understanding of general ledger and month-end close
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Experience with Sage, Vista, Foundation, Procore, or similar systems is a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
