Low Voltage Superintendent - Mission Critical
POSITION SUMMARY
McCarthys Mission Critical Business Unit is currently seeking a skilled Low Voltage Superintendent to lead the effort in coordinating controls, security, fire alarm, communications, and fiber-optic systems.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience managing low-voltage scopes of work and success working with Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, vendors, and the rest of the project team to ensure successful completion of these systems.
This is a full-time, site-based position that may require extensive travel to locations that span the continental U.S. Travel subsistence and additional incentives provided per company guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and lead low-voltage subcontractors throughout the duration of the project, including controls, security, fire alarm, communications, and fiber-optic scopes.
- Assist in developing detailed CPM schedules for low-voltage installation, testing, programming, integrated systems testing, commissioning, and closeout activities.
- Coordinate activities, schedule, material procurement, project logistics, temporary facility plans, and system access requirements with the General Building Superintendent, Project Manager, field staff, design team, vendors, and commissioning agents.
- Review contract documents, specifications, drawings, and system narratives for low-voltage systems and make improvement suggestions as needed.
- Supervise the review and coordination of submittals, shop drawings, product data, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, network architecture, sequences of operation, and test plans.
- Coordinate installation and integration of building automation and controls, access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, fire alarm, structured cabling, communications, and fiber-optic systems.
- Review and approve materials and equipment for low-voltage systems and monitor installation, startup, programming, testing, and commissioning, resolving conflicts before work begins.
- Coordinate pathway, sleeves, penetrations, cable tray, grounding and bonding, labeling, rack and cabinet layouts, equipment rooms, and interface points with electrical, mechanical, architectural, IT, and other trades.
- Understand and assist with pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, network testing, fiber testing, fire alarm testing, and final commissioning activities.
- Track installation progress, inspections, testing results, deficiencies, and punch-list completion; support turnover of operation and maintenance manuals, as-built documentation, test reports, training materials, and system credentials.
- Prepare reports and communicate progress, risks, schedule impacts, and outstanding decisions to Project Managers and Project Directors, and to project owners during weekly meetings.
- Supervise, develop, and mentor Low Voltage Project Engineers and field personnel.
- Promote a safe, organized, and quality-focused jobsite while ensuring low-voltage work is installed in accordance with contract requirements, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and project standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 7 years experience in a field leadership position for a General Contractor, Electrical Contractor, Low Voltage Contractor, Systems Integrator, or related specialty contractor.
- 4+ years experience in the capacity of a Superintendent specifically overseeing low-voltage, controls, security, fire alarm, communications, structured cabling, or fiber-optic systems.
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Proven track record as a Superintendent on hyperscale, large commercial, Mission Critical or Data Center, Critical Facilities, healthcare, industrial, or other technology-intensive projects.
- Thorough knowledge of low-voltage systems, including building automation and controls, access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, fire alarm, structured cabling, communications, copper cabling, and fiber optics.
- Working knowledge of system integration, network infrastructure, testing and commissioning, sequences of operation, and coordination between low-voltage systems and mechanical, electrical, and life-safety systems.
- General understanding of applicable building, electrical, fire and life-safety, communications, National Electrical Code, and other regulations as they relate to project construction.
- Experience dealing with low-voltage subcontracts, systems integrators, specialty vendors, manufacturers, testing agencies, commissioning agents, and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling, submittals, RFIs, change management, quality control, safety, and project closeout.
- Excellent communication, coordination, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be geographically mobile, able to relocate and/or travel

For California locations only, the salary range for this position is: $99,700 - $192,200. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors.
For Colorado locations only, in accordance with Colorados Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (SB19-085), we are including McCarthys good-faith and reasonable estimate of a range of entry level base compensation at the time of the posting. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Given the dynamic nature of the large-scale commercial construction industry, a candidates project portfolio and background can change the role and compensation for which that candidate might be qualified. The title and pay range for this role could change based on candidate qualifications and experience. Pay Range: $90,600 - $130,300
