Overview

The welder performs Class A TIG welding with materials such as stainless steel and aluminum and make necessary inspections and set ups with a minimum of technical assistance in a manufacturing environment.



Responsibilities

  • Tack weld parts in preparation for final welding.
  • Interprets assembly blueprints, drawings, schematics, travelers and/or engineering specifications to weld, assemble, test and check quality parts under supervision.
  • Checks and tests products using a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as calipers, altitude gages, digital gages, dial indicators and drop indicators to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • May be required to safety wire parts as necessary according to MS instructions and attach stainless steel tags per drawing specifications.
  • Assemble “specials” and small quantity orders when necessary.
  • Performs analysis and repairs units needing rework.
  • May be required to drill and pin per assembly routers.
  • Meets daily production standards.
  • May be required to bevel edges, finish grinding, and smooth out imperfections.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Inspect parts per drawing requirements and log data as required.
  • Actively participates in safety and continuous improvement and processes needed to ensure production is maintained.
  • Contribute daily ideas for continuous improvement i.e. setup reduction and process improvement.


Qualifications



  • Minimum of 6 months experience in TIG welding, stainless steel and aluminum.
  • Requires ability to: read, speak and write in English, follow verbal and written instruction, read simple gages/meters and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic shop math helpful.
  • A moderate amount of concentration is required involving coordination of mental processes and physical responses.
  • Must be able to work overtime during the week and weekends.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English and follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Must be able to perform standard shop computations (applying geometry and trigonometry) relating to angular and linear dimensions of work, tooling.
  • Critical Thinking- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Consults with engineering and other personnel regarding product information. Ability to interpret blueprints, blueprint symbols, drawings, and sketches.
  • Design- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
