Position Summary
The Junior Systems Engineer supports the design, integration, implementation, testing, operation, and maintenance of information technology and systems solutions for federal government customers. Working under the guidance of senior engineering staff, the Junior Systems Engineer assists with requirements analysis, system configuration, troubleshooting, technical documentation, testing, and implementation activities. The position supports the evaluation of system performance and interoperability, identification and resolution of technical issues, and compliance with applicable government security, technical, and operational requirements.
Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers with on-site deployment and integration of enterprise IT systems.
- Configure and baseline Windows Server environments.
- Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy configuration.
- Assist with virtualization platforms such as Nutanix AHV and VMware.
- Configure and validate networking equipment.
- Support firewall deployments and baseline configurations.
- Assist with secure communications, collaboration platforms, and enterprise applications.
- Assist with system validation, functional testing, and troubleshooting during deployments.
- Prepare deployment documentation and configuration records.
- Travel domestically and internationally as required to support field deployments.
- Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
- Monitor RavenTek email on a regular basis.
- Complete required compliance training as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Critical Skills
- Ability to work independently while learning from senior technical staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Foundational knowledge of systems engineering principles, including requirements analysis, system design, integration, testing, implementation, and lifecycle support.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, networking, software applications, and IT infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux environments, system configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform technical troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem resolution with guidance from senior engineers.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, access controls, vulnerability management, system hardening, and security best practices.
- Basic knowledge of cloud computing and virtualization technologies, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, VMware, or similar platforms.
- Ability to support system integration, testing, verification, and validation activities.
- Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation, including system diagrams, configuration documentation, test procedures, installation guides, and operating procedures.
- Familiarity with requirements management, configuration management, change control, and version control concepts.
- Basic understanding of scripting or automation using technologies such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity or information technology related field.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance.
Work Environment
Employee will be working indoors in an office environment with other people. Potential moderate temperature fluctuations. Typical indoor and computer related noise level, and typical office, paper, and equipment related dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.
Physical Demands
To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, the employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; see to read printed materials and computer screens; mobility to work in a typical office setting. Ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and may be required to provide recommendations, summaries and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee must be able to lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically up to 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
