Responsibilities
Complete Building Services (CBS) is seeking a Lead Stationary Engineer (LSE) for a large facility located in Gaithersburg, MD. The Lead Stationary Engineer will act as the primary point of contact between the on-site shift supervisors and the on-site contractor personnel. The LSE shall possess a MD-DLLR Grade 1 License (First-Class Stationary Engineer) and maintain the license for as long as they perform on this requirement. The LSE must also possess a current Universal CFC License and maintain this license for as long as they perform on this requirement.
Position Description: The LSE will oversee on-site operations and be responsible for ensuring that task order requirements are met.
The Lead Stationary Engineer shall:
- Act as the primary on-site point of contact between the NIST on-site shift supervisors and the on-site Contractor personnel
- Oversee on-site Contractor operations and requirements
- Meet with NIST shift supervisors and disperse the Contractor personnel tasks and duties
Operation Duties:
Maintain the correct steam pressure and water level in the steam generators by proper operation of the control system
Inspect the feed water regulatory controls and gauges
Ensure proper combustion by maintaining the required O2 levels in the exit gases
Maintain an established chemical program by performing tests, adding the required chemicals to each system, and adjusting system blow down rates, etc.
Perform operation of all auxiliary equipment associated with steam generation, and electrical generation, and chilled water production
- Maintain correct air pressure by proper adjustments to the air compressors and dryers
- Maintain site chilled water temperature to the campus
Operate and monitor the chillers for inlet/outlet temperatures for the condenser and evaporator, and the free cooling system
- Insure the safe operation of all equipment
- Wear proper PPE and follow all required protocols
Maintenance Duties:
Troubleshooting/repair/perform preventative maintenance of all equipment that provides steam, chilled water and compressed air found in the Steam and Chilled Water Generation Plant
Measuring, cutting and threading pipe, and cleaning the water and fire sides of the steam generator
Troubleshoot/repair control issues associated with direct digital, pneumatic and electric controls. Repack valves, repair pumps and perform pump maintenance
Perform housekeeping duties within their work area as required and assigned, i.e. sweeping, mopping, wiping down equipment in their work area, keeping their work area clean and free of debris or hazards, etc.
Equipment:
- Four high pressure steam generators (boilers); generating 44,000 lbs. of steam per hour at 150psi.
- Two high pressure steam generators (boilers); generating 80,000 lbs. of steam per hour at 150 psi
- Four centrifugal electric motor driven air compressors; furnishing compressed air at 110 psi
- One gas CHP (COGEN) turbine generator; generating 8 MW and 80,000 lbs. of steam per hour
- Seven 3500 Ton York Chillers
- All ancillary equipment associated with the above equipment
Salary:$50-$55 per hour
Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Qualifications
The Lead Engineer will possess the following:
- Active MD-DLLR Grade 1 License (First Class Stationary Engineer)
- Current Universal CFC License
- CUP experience
- Minimum of 3-5+ years experience as a Lead or Chief Engineer in a comparable size facility (2 million + sq. ft.)
- Comprehensive knowledge of MEP systems, specialized subcontracted trades, and mission critical operating characteristics to oversee and direct daily equipment and systems operations
- Computer proficient and advanced knowledge of DDC control system
- Strong communication and writing skills
