Collections Specialist

We are looking for a Collections Specialist to support accounts receivable efforts for a wholesale distribution organization in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This contract opportunity with potential for a long-term role is suited for someone who can balance customer service with firm follow-through while helping reduce outstanding balances and maintain healthy cash flow. The person in this role will work across billing and credit-related activities, communicate with commercial and consumer accounts, and keep collection records accurate and up to date.

Responsibilities:
• Contact commercial and consumer customers regarding overdue invoices and open balances through phone, email, and other appropriate follow-up methods.
• Review aging reports and prioritize collection efforts to improve timely payment and reduce delinquent accounts.
• Research billing questions, payment discrepancies, and account history to resolve issues that may delay collections.
• Partner with internal teams such as billing, customer service, and credit to address account concerns and support payment resolution.
• Document collection activity, customer commitments, disputes, and account status updates in the appropriate records.
• Monitor payment arrangements and follow up consistently to ensure agreed-upon deadlines are met.
• Assist with credit and collections processes by identifying risk trends and escalating accounts when additional action is needed.
• Support ongoing process updates related to collection workflows and account management practices as business needs evolve.

Qualifications:

• Experience handling collections for commercial accounts, consumer accounts, or a combination of both.
• Working knowledge of credit and collections practices, including account follow-up, dispute review, and payment tracking.
• Familiarity with billing collection processes and the ability to resolve invoice-related issues accurately.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to remain detail-oriented, persistent, and customer-focused.
• Ability to manage multiple accounts, organize follow-up activity, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate account notes, payment records, and collection documentation.
• Comfortable analyzing account status and determining appropriate next steps for recovery efforts.

Compensation

$24.00-$26.00 Hourly
