Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support accounting operations for a Local Government organization in Upland, California. This is a Contract position focused on maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with daily accounting activities, and contributing to a smooth month-end close process. The ideal candidate brings strong Excel capabilities and hands-on experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and accounts payable and receivable functions.

Responsibilities:
• Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial transactions are captured accurately and on time.
• Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain the integrity of cash records.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including reviewing transactions and resolving routine issues.
• Assist with audit preparation by organizing documentation and responding to requests for financial support materials.
• Maintain general ledger accuracy through regular review, analysis, and correction of account activity.
• Use Excel to analyze financial data, reconcile downloaded reports, and create clear supporting schedules.
• Contribute to tax-related accounting tasks, including support for corporate tax and sales tax reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

• Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations.
• Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and audit support responsibilities.
• Above-average Excel skills, including the ability to work with downloaded reports and perform detailed reconciliations.
• Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return support.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Compensation

$33.25-$38.50 Hourly
