Accounts Payable Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Associate to join our accounting team within a fast paced trading environment in Stamford, CT. The ideal candidate will have a solid fundamental understanding of accounting principles, strong attention to detail, and hands-on experience managing accounts payable activities in a professional environment. This role will work closely with the accounting and finance teams and will be responsible for ensuring invoices and payments are processed accurately, timely, and in accordance with company policies and accounting procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and maintain accounts payable transactions, including invoices, expense reports, and payment requests.
- Review invoices for accuracy, proper coding, appropriate approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Perform three-way matching of purchase orders, invoices, and receiving documentation where applicable.
- Enter and maintain vendor invoices and payment information in the accounting system.
- Prepare and process vendor payments, including ACH, wires, and checks.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities related to accounts payable.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and respond to vendor inquiries.
- Assist with account reconciliations and other general accounting responsibilities as needed.
- Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and company policies.
- Work collaboratively with internal departments to resolve invoice, coding, and payment issues.
- Support the accounting team with ad hoc projects and process improvements.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant accounts payable or accounting experience.
- Fundamental understanding of accounting principles, including debits and credits, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting/ERP systems.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Experience in financial services, commodities, trading, energy, or another transaction-intensive environment is a plus.
- Experience handling high-volume invoice and payment activity.
- Familiarity with wire transfers and other electronic payment processes.
- Understanding of month-end close procedures.
- Experience with vendor reconciliations and resolving accounting discrepancies.
- Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookups, and basic data analysis.
- Exposure to commodities trading or other financial markets is highly desirable.
