Collections Specialist

A well-established financial services organization is seeking a Collections Specialist to join its team on a contract-to-hire basis. This role is responsible for managing delinquent loan accounts, resolving negative deposit balances, and helping minimize losses through effective collections and member account management.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong customer service mindset, collections experience, and the ability to handle sensitive financial conversations with professionalism and empathy.

Key Responsibilities

• Contact members regarding delinquent loan accounts and negative deposit balances via phone, email, and written correspondence.
• Work with members to establish repayment solutions and resolve outstanding balances.
• Analyze member financial situations and recommend appropriate collection actions.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all collection activity and member interactions.
• Prepare collection and recovery reports as assigned.
• Monitor account trends and communicate concerns or recurring issues to management.
• Ensure all collection efforts comply with company policies, industry regulations, and applicable laws.
• Provide professional, responsive support to members while maintaining exceptional customer service standards.
• Assist with additional account servicing and administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• 1-3 years of collections, account resolution, customer service, banking, credit union, or related experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage difficult conversations professionally and tactfully.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and account management systems.
• Reliable attendance and strong organizational skills.

Preferred

• Financial institution, banking, or credit union experience.
• Bilingual Spanish/English communication skills.
• Experience working with loan servicing or delinquency management.
