Accouning Specialist
A growing construction company in West Houston is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day accounting operations. This role will have a strong focus on construction accounting, AIA billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, job cost tracking, and customer invoicing.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in the construction industry and understand the unique accounting requirements associated with project-based work, including progress billings, lien waivers, retention tracking, and subcontractor payments.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process AIA billing and progress billings for commercial construction projects
- Work closely with project managers to gather, review, and validate billing information
- Track contract values, change orders, stored materials, retainage, and project billing schedules
- Submit owner billings and ensure compliance with contract requirements
- Manage customer invoicing and collections follow-up
- Process vendor and subcontractor invoices
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
- Monitor job costs and support project accounting functions
- Maintain subcontractor documentation, insurance certificates, and lien waivers
- Assist with cash applications and customer payment tracking
- Perform account reconciliations and support month-end close
- Maintain organized project files and supporting documentation
- Support accounting leadership with reporting and special projects
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
- Experience preparing and processing AIA billings
- Understanding of retention, change orders, lien waivers, and job costing
- Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage 100 Contractor, Sage Intacct, Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, CMiC, Procore, COINS, or similar
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- Commercial construction experience
- Experience supporting multiple active projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of WIP reporting and project cost tracking
Compensation
