Senior Property Accountant

Houston, TX 77072, US Temporary
Compensation: $34 to $43 Hourly

A well-established real estate organization is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join its accounting team. This role will oversee the financial reporting and accounting activities for a portfolio of commercial properties, ensuring accurate financial statements, tenant billing, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.


The ideal candidate will have property accounting experience, a strong understanding of real estate financials, and the ability to manage multiple properties while partnering closely with property managers, asset managers, and leadership.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial, retail, industrial, or office properties
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual property financial statements
  • Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Analyze income statements and balance sheet activity and investigate variances
  • Prepare and review tenant billings, CAM reconciliations, and operating expense recoveries
  • Reconcile bank accounts, property operating accounts, and escrow accounts
  • Monitor and record fixed asset additions, disposals, and depreciation
  • Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and reforecasts
  • Review lease agreements and ensure proper accounting treatment
  • Prepare workpapers and schedules for external auditors and tax professionals
  • Partner with property managers to analyze property performance and operating expenses
  • Assist with acquisitions, dispositions, and property transitions as needed
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 4+ years of accounting experience
  • 2+ years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with month-end close, accruals, financial reporting, and account reconciliations
  • Strong understanding of CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and lease administration
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial analysis
  • Experience with MRI, Yardi, RealPage, JD Edwards, SAP, NetSuite, or similar ERP/property management systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commercial real estate experience
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Experience supporting multi-property portfolios
  • Exposure to acquisitions, dispositions, and property transitions
  • Experience with owner reporting and lender reporting requirements

Compensation

$34.00-$43.00 Hourly
