Staff Accountant

An established and growing company in West Houston is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This role will be responsible for supporting the month-end close process, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to grow within a collaborative accounting environment. This position offers exposure to a variety of accounting functions and provides a strong foundation for long-term career development.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and reclassifications
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
• Perform balance sheet and bank account reconciliations
• Analyze general ledger accounts and investigate variances
• Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports and supporting schedules
• Reconcile prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis projects
• Support external audits by preparing requested schedules and documentation
• Monitor compliance with company policies and accounting procedures
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
• 2+ years of accounting experience
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and account reconciliations
• Experience supporting month-end close activities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics 365, JD Edwards, Sage, or similar
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Public accounting internship or experience
• CPA candidate or plans to pursue CPA certification
• Experience in energy, manufacturing, distribution, construction, healthcare, or professional services
• Exposure to financial reporting and variance analysis
