Position Overview
Wilsonart is seeking a Senior Product Manager, Decorative Surfaces to lead the strategy, development, commercialization, and lifecycle management of our Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL) product portfolio.
This is a physical product management role within the building materials and decorative surfaces industry. The ideal candidate will have experience managing manufactured products and a strong understanding of market strategy, product development, new product introductions, pricing, forecasting, and product lifecycle management.
The Senior Product Manager will develop and execute annual and long-term product strategies designed to maximize profitable growth across the TFL portfolio. This position will identify market opportunities and customer needs, assess competitive activity, develop product and pricing strategies, and lead cross-functional initiatives to bring new products to market and optimize the existing portfolio.
This role partners extensively with Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Design, Finance, and other internal teams, as well as customers and external partners. The successful candidate will be comfortable leading complex projects, influencing cross-functional teams, and translating market insights into actionable product strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Portfolio Management
- Develop and execute annual and long-term product strategies for the TFL product portfolio.
- Identify market opportunities, customer needs, emerging trends, and product gaps to support portfolio growth.
- Evaluate existing products and recommend enhancements, extensions, rationalization, or new product opportunities.
- Manage products throughout the entire lifecycle, from concept and development through launch, growth, maturity, and end-of-life.
- Develop business cases and return-on-investment analyses for new products, product enhancements, and portfolio investments.
- Establish product goals and performance metrics and monitor results against business objectives.
Market & Competitive Analysis
- Conduct market research to understand customer needs, market trends, competitive activity, and emerging opportunities.
- Assess competitors' products, features, pricing, positioning, and go-to-market strategies.
- Partner with Sales and customers to gather market intelligence and identify opportunities for growth.
- Translate customer and market insights into product recommendations and business strategies.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the decorative surfaces, TFL, laminate, panels, and broader building materials markets.
New Product Development & Commercialization
- Lead and coordinate new product introduction initiatives from concept through commercialization.
- Define product requirements based on market needs, customer insights, competitive analysis, and business objectives.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Design, Marketing, and Sales to develop and launch new products.
- Establish project timelines, milestones, and launch plans to ensure successful commercialization.
- Develop integrated product launch plans in partnership with Sales, Marketing, Operations, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor product launches and make recommendations to improve performance and market adoption.
Sales & Go-to-Market Strategy
- Partner with Sales leadership to develop product sales strategies and programs designed to increase market share and profitability.
- Develop product positioning, value propositions, and sales tools in partnership with Marketing.
- Support sales teams with product knowledge, competitive insights, pricing strategies, and market intelligence.
- Participate in customer meetings and field visits with Sales to better understand customer needs and evaluate market opportunities.
- Develop strategies to increase product adoption and penetration across targeted customer segments.
- Provide product expertise and recommendations to support customer presentations, line reviews, and business planning.
Pricing, Forecasting & Financial Management
- Develop and recommend product pricing strategies based on market research, competitive positioning, costs, anticipated volume, and business objectives.
- Develop short- and long-term product sales forecasts and monitor performance against expectations.
- Partner with Finance, Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain to understand product profitability and financial performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve product margins, inventory performance, and overall portfolio profitability.
- Support customized and special-order pricing decisions as needed.
- Analyze sales and product performance data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring action.
Operations, Supply & Inventory
- Partner with Manufacturing and Operations to support efficient utilization of TFL assets and manufacturing capabilities.
- Collaborate with Sourcing and Supply Chain to ensure product availability and certainty of supply.
- Monitor inventory levels, demand forecasts, production schedules, and product availability.
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory turnover while maintaining appropriate service levels.
- Work cross-functionally to address product availability, supply, quality, or production issues that may impact customers or business performance.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead complex, cross-functional product management initiatives involving Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Design, and Finance.
- Build strong collaborative relationships across functions and organizational levels.
- Influence outcomes and drive accountability without relying solely on direct authority.
- Communicate product strategies, business cases, recommendations, and performance updates to leadership.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for internal teams regarding the TFL product portfolio.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of decorative surfaces, TFL, laminate, panels, or related building materials preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing physical/manufactured products through development, commercialization, launch, and lifecycle management.
- Strong understanding of product management principles, market research, competitive analysis, pricing, and go-to-market strategy.
- Strong analytical and financial skills with the ability to evaluate market data, forecasts, costs, profitability, and business cases.
- Ability to translate customer and market insights into actionable product strategies.
- Strong project management skills with experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Ability to influence and gain alignment across Sales, Marketing, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and other functions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills and confidence communicating with senior leadership, customers, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong business acumen and ability to connect product decisions to revenue, profitability, and market share.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and business analytics tools.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Product Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in product management, product marketing, sales, marketing, or a related function managing physical/manufactured products.
- Experience in building materials, decorative surfaces, laminates, panels, flooring, cabinetry, furniture, or a related industry strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading new product introductions and cross-functional product development initiatives.
- Experience developing product strategies, market plans, forecasts, pricing strategies, and product lifecycle plans.
- Experience partnering with Sales and other cross-functional teams to commercialize products and drive business results.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or other physical product environment preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sitting in the same location of standing/walking; required to stoop, climb or lift light material (10-20lbs) or equipment.
