The Manager, Maintenance Implementation and Optimization serves as a specialized field leader responsible for launching new maintenance operations, stabilizing underperforming maintenance shops, and implementing maintenance practices across the organization. This role is deployed to new and existing locations to establish operational standards, improve technician performance, strengthen compliance, and drive equipment uptime.

The position functions as a hands-on maintenance expert, capable of leading shop operations, developing team capabilities, optimizing maintenance processes, and ensuring locations consistently meet company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance operations during the startup of new shops, satellite service operations, and customer-dedicated maintenance locations.
  • Provide temporary leadership and operational oversight for maintenance locations during startup, leadership transitions, staffing shortages, or performance recovery initiatives.
  • Assess underperforming maintenance facilities and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, compliance, technician effectiveness, and cost management.
  • Develop and execute corrective action plans to improve operational performance and service levels.
  • Coordinate shop setup activities, including equipment procurement, tool requirements, inventory establishment, workflow processes, and systems implementation.
  • Establish operational standards, maintenance procedures, safety practices, and reporting expectations.
  • Monitor key performance indicators related to equipment uptime, PM compliance, repair quality, labor efficiency, inventory accuracy, and shop profitability.
  • Verify repairs meet company quality standards and regulatory requirements before equipment is returned to service.
  • Review equipment used in each location to understand the business operational needs and proper repair techniques for each type of equipment.
  • Train and coach maintenance personnel at all levels, including technicians, service writers, foremen, and shop managers.
  • Develop training plans that reinforce company processes, maintenance standards, safety requirements, and system utilization.
  • Communicate in a timely manner to all stakeholders on any issue that will affect the uptime of equipment beyond normal repair times.
  • Communicate with Driver Support on any piece of equipment that needs to be sent to an outside shop. Driver Support will be responsible for handling repairs after being notified.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of Class 8 tractors, trailers, and heavy-duty maintenance operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suit of products.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs, repair order management, inventory controls, and fleet maintenance best practices.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA requirements, and environmental compliance standards.
  • High level of proficiency in TMT Suite applications.
  • Must be able to analyze multiple decision factors and apply those factors effectively in the shop management process.
  • Ability to assess business problems, identify root causes, and implement practical operational solutions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively via text message, email, and telephone.
  • Must be available for communication on nights, weekends and holidays as needed to support the shop being developed.
  • Knowledge of how to utilize vendor supplied software to connect a laptop to tractors and diagnose issues.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, including safe operating temperatures and pressures.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or similar field required. 1 year of relevant work experience may be substituted for each year of education required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in shop management or similar field required.
  • Demonstrated success leading maintenance startups, operational turnarounds, or multi-location maintenance environments preferred.

The posted range reflects the full pay band for the position. The expected pay range below represents where most candidates are hired, based on experience, skills, and internal equity. Candidates with more extensive or highly relevant experience may be considered toward the higher end of the overall pay band.

  • Expected Pay Range: $82,256.00-$94,594.80
  • Full Pay Range: $82,256.00-$134,657.00
  • Pay Grade: 12
