Mid-Level Systems Engineer – Red LAN

Location: Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO
Clearance: TS/SCI

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mid-Level Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, verification, and sustainment of a mission-critical Red LAN environment at Schriever Space Force Base. The ideal candidate will have experience working across complex IT systems and a strong understanding of systems engineering principles, requirements management, interface integration, verification, reliability, and sustainment.

This role will work closely with engineering, operations, cybersecurity, and program stakeholders to ensure systems remain reliable, available, supportable, and aligned with mission requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, integrate, and validate complex IT systems supporting mission-critical environments.
  • Manage system interfaces, requirements, verification activities, and sustainment engineering throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Lead interface definition, documentation, integration, and verification activities across system components and external interfaces.
  • Drive defect and Discrepancy Report (DR) triage, coordinating with engineering and operations teams to identify root causes, prioritize issues, and drive resolution.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage critical component lists, including identification of mission-essential hardware and software components.
  • Develop and maintain spares strategies to support system availability, maintainability, and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate technology refresh activities, including lifecycle planning, component replacement, system upgrades, testing, and transition to operations.
  • Analyze reliability and availability trends to identify recurring issues, system vulnerabilities, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Recommend and implement engineering improvements designed to increase system reliability, availability, maintainability, and mission performance.
  • Support system-level integration and testing activities, ensuring requirements are properly traced through verification and validation.
  • Coordinate with government, contractor, operations, and technical stakeholders to resolve system-level engineering issues.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, engineering artifacts, interface documentation, requirements traceability, and sustainment plans.
  • Participate in technical reviews, engineering working groups, configuration management activities, and program status meetings.
  • Provide technical recommendations to program leadership regarding system performance, lifecycle risks, modernization opportunities, and sustainment priorities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Certification in DCWF Intermediate is required
  • 5+ years of relevant systems engineering, IT engineering, network engineering, or systems integration experience.
  • Must have and maintain an active DoD TS/SCI security clearance
  • Experience with systems engineering processes, including requirements management, interface management, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex IT systems and coordinating resolution of technical defects.
  • Experience supporting system sustainment, lifecycle management, technology refresh, or modernization activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate reliability and availability data and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, government stakeholders, and program leadership.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively across multiple engineering and operational teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or U.S. Space Force programs.
  • Experience working in a classified or mission-critical IT environment.
  • Experience with Red LAN or Air Force/Space Force network environments.
  • Experience with configuration management, change management, and technical baseline management.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering concepts, availability analysis, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience developing critical component and spares strategies.
  • Experience supporting technology refresh and end-of-life replacement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering frameworks and lifecycle methodologies.
  • Experience with tools used for requirements management, defect tracking, configuration management, and systems documentation.
