The newly established Ingusci Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate to join a growing and highly collaborative research program focused on developing next-generation viral vector technologies for precision gene therapy.

The incumbent will conduct research focused on the development and application of next-generation replication-defective herpes simplex virus (HSV) vectors for precision gene therapy of neurological and skeletal muscle disorders. Research projects will include the development and evaluation of novel HSV-based gene therapy platforms using in vitro and in vivo models of neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases, with an emphasis on translating innovative vector technologies into therapeutic applications.

Primary responsibilities include designing and executing independent research projects involving viral vector engineering, molecular cloning, recombinant DNA technologies, mammalian cell culture, molecular and cellular biology, advanced microscopy, and analysis of molecular and imaging datasets. The Postdoctoral Associate will also contribute to preclinical studies using rodent models, including viral vector administration, stereotaxic surgery, behavioral testing, tissue collection, and downstream molecular and histological analyses.
