Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a growing organization in Waukesha, Wisconsin on a Contract basis. This onsite role offers the opportunity to contribute across core accounting activities, financial reporting, and month-end close while partnering closely with financial operations leadership. The position is well suited for someone who enjoys detailed accounting work and also wants visibility into how cash activity and operational processes connect to the broader financial picture.

Responsibilities:
• Manage daily accounting tasks and contribute to a timely, accurate month-end close process.
• Prepare financial statements and supporting reports for leadership review, ensuring consistency and reliability in reported results.
• Oversee accounts payable activities, including bill processing, payment coordination, and maintenance of complete transaction records.
• Create and distribute customer invoices while monitoring entries for accuracy and proper documentation.
• Reconcile balance sheet and bank accounts, investigate variances, and resolve outstanding issues promptly.
• Record journal entries and apply transactions correctly within the general ledger to maintain accurate financial data.
• Analyze accounting and cash activity to support reporting needs and provide meaningful financial insight.
• Partner with financial operations to track and reconcile movement of funds across multiple accounts and banking relationships.
• Assist with updates to accounting processes, system-related improvements, and other ad hoc support as business needs evolve.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant, senior staff accountant, or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience supporting month-end close and preparing financial statements.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including lookup formulas, conditional summaries, and pivot tables.
• Familiarity with fund accounting concepts or experience working with cash allocation and multi-account reconciliations.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
• High attention to detail, sound analytical ability, and comfort working in an evolving business environment.
