Senior Accountant

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to support month-end close, financial reporting, audit preparation, and complex general ledger activities for a San Francisco organization. This hybrid contract role requires someone who can quickly assess accounting issues and work independently with limited direction.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned portions of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
• Analyze financial results and investigate material variances.
• Maintain supporting schedules for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.
• Assist with financial statement preparation and management reporting.
• Support external audits by preparing schedules and responding to requests.
• Review accounting transactions for accuracy and GAAP compliance.
• Document accounting procedures and strengthen internal controls.
• Identify and implement improvements to close and reconciliation processes.
• Provide guidance and review support to junior accounting staff.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Strong month-end close, general ledger, and financial reporting experience.
• Thorough understanding of GAAP and internal accounting controls.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup formulas.
• Experience with NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Sage Intacct, or a comparable ERP.
• Strong analytical and account-reconciliation skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight reporting deadlines.
• CPA or public accounting experience is a plus.
