Grant Accountant
We are seeking a Grant Accountant to support grant billing, financial reporting, compliance, and reconciliation activities for a nonprofit organization in San Francisco. This hybrid contract role will work closely with finance and program teams to ensure grant expenditures are properly recorded and reported.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accounting records for government, foundation, and private grants.
- Prepare grant invoices, reimbursement requests, and supporting schedules.
- Review expenses for compliance with grant agreements and approved budgets.
- Reconcile grant revenue, receivables, expenditures, and deferred balances.
- Prepare journal entries and assist with monthly close activities.
- Monitor grant budgets and communicate potential variances.
- Maintain documentation for audits and funder reviews.
- Assist program managers with grant-related financial questions.
- Prepare grant financial reports and expenditure summaries.
- Support process improvements related to grant tracking and billing.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of accounting experience, including grant or nonprofit accounting.
- Experience preparing grant billings and reimbursement requests.
- Knowledge of restricted funding and grant-compliance requirements.
- Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Blackbaud, MIP, or a similar system preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Government contract billing or Uniform Guidance experience is a plus.
