Tax Preparer
The Tax Preparer is responsible for preparing accurate individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax returns using Lacerte tax software. This role reviews client financial documents, applies current tax laws, identifies deductions and credits, and ensures timely filing in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Tax Preparer may also communicate with clients to gather missing information, answer tax-related questions, and support tax planning and compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns using Lacerte tax software
- Review client financial records, including W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, brokerage statements, and business financials
- Analyze tax documents for completeness and accuracy
- Identify eligible deductions, credits, and tax-saving opportunities
- Ensure compliance with current tax regulations and filing requirements
- Organize and maintain client tax files and supporting documentation
- Communicate with clients to request missing information and clarify tax matters
- Assist with tax notices, amended returns, and other follow-up items as needed
- Meet filing deadlines and manage multiple returns during busy tax seasons
- Stay current on tax law changes and software updates
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Experience preparing tax returns for individuals and/or businesses
- Proficiency with Lacerte tax software
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
- Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- CPA, EA, or relevant tax coursework is a plus
Preferred Background:
- Public accounting, CPA firm, or tax practice experience
- Experience with high-volume tax preparation during busy season
- Familiarity with bookkeeping or accounting software such as QuickBooks is a plus
