Responsibilities

SAM is seeking an experienced SUE leader to shape the strategy, growth, and performance of our Subsurface Utility Engineering operations across the Mid-Atlantic region. This highly visible leadership role offers the opportunity to build and develop teams, strengthen client partnerships, influence regional strategy, and expand SUE services throughout VA, MD, DE, DC, PA, WV, and NJ.

 

As Director of SUE, you will have responsibility for departmental operations, financial performance, project delivery, talent development, and market growth. You will work closely with executive leadership and SAM's Survey, GIS, and BIM/LiDAR teams to deliver integrated solutions for complex infrastructure projects.

 

The ideal candidate is an established SUE leader who combines technical knowledge with strong business judgment, people leadership, and client-development experience. This opportunity is well suited for someone who wants to make a meaningful impact, develop the next generation of leaders, and help shape the continued growth of a regional SUE practice.



Qualifications



Required

  • Significant leadership experience within SUE, utility engineering, or a closely related industry
  • Strong knowledge of SUE methods, technologies, quality levels, and applicable industry standards
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and developing managers and technical professionals
  • Proven success overseeing project performance, budgets, schedules, profitability, and quality
  • Experience building client relationships and contributing to business development
  • Strong communication, strategic planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic region as needed

 

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Surveyor (PS/PLS) license 
  • Experience leading SUE operations across multiple offices or states
  • Established relationships within the Mid-Atlantic infrastructure market
