As an Instructional Design Intern at the Utah Transit Authority, you’ll gain hands-on experience in instructional design, curriculum development, adult learning, e-learning, and workforce training. You’ll work with instructional designers, trainers, and subject matter experts to create training content, learning activities, assessments, job aids, and other resources that support employees across UTA. As the Instructional Design Intern, you will:
- Provide support in curriculum development, instructional design, and Workforce Technical Training processes.
- Assist with the review, development, design, and revision of training courses and materials for Workforce Technical Training programs.
- Support Workforce Technical Training in implementing standardized curriculum, instructional development, training management, and training process compliance.
- Assist in creating training content, learning activities, and assessments for delivery across various business unit settings, including e-learning.
- Apply instructional design best practices and adult learning principles to support consistent training standards and effective learning experiences.
- Assist with the administration and maintenance of the Learning Management System, including course and training record support.
- Serve as a liaison between the Instructional Design team, trainers, and SMEs to support training development activities.
- Participate in team meetings, project discussions, and collaborative activities to support team effectiveness, communication, and awareness.
- Support the development and maintenance of instructional materials, job aids, presentations, and other training resources.
- Assist with quality assurance and review of training materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, usability, and alignment with established standards.
This internship is part time and will not exceed 29 hours per week. It is expected to last 6 months but may be extended up to a year.
This is an in-person position that cannot be conducted remotely. If you do not live in the Salt Lake City or surrounding area, this position would require you to relocate for the full duration of the internship.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/LICENSE:
- No experience required.
- At least a Junior or Senior level student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, seeking undergraduate degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design, or related field.
- Preferred coursework: Instructional design, adult learning theory/adult education, curriculum development, educational/learning technology, learning assessment, or related fields.
- Must submit a transcript of grades and two letters of recommendation. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
- Must have a valid Utah driver's license. Must be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years. Cannot have more than 2 violations of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Interpersonal and project management skills to include: ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including with outside agencies, consultants, subject matter experts, and employees is desired.
- Skilled in computer use and the knowledge of a variety of associated software including Adobe Creative Cloud and Articulate Storyline desired.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) at the intermediate level.

Pay Rate: $20.88 Per hour
