Principal Engineer
About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer (UI/UX & Full Stack) serves as a senior technical leader responsible for defining architecture, driving engineering excellence, and leading the development of modern, scalable, secure, and high-performing web applications. The role requires deep expertise in ReactJS, backend API development and integration, cloud-native architectures, and modern engineering practices.
The ideal candidate combines strong front-end engineering skills with backend development experience and a passion for building intuitive user experiences. Experience with blockchain technologies, particularly Cosmos SDK-based ecosystems, is highly desirable.
This role influences technical direction across multiple teams, drives architecture decisions, leads modernization initiatives, and mentors engineers across the organization.
In this role, you will:
- Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
- Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
- Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
- Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
- Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Architecture & Technical Leadership
- Define and drive the technical vision and architecture for enterprise-scale web applications.
- Lead architecture, design reviews, and technical governance across multiple projects.
- Establish front-end and full-stack engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices.
- Drive modernization initiatives and adoption of cloud-native architectures.
- Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Product Owners, Architects, and senior leadership to align technology solutions with business objectives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to improve business outcomes.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers across multiple teams.
Front-End Engineering
- Design and develop enterprise-grade applications using ReactJS, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Build responsive, accessible, and intuitive user interfaces that provide exceptional user experiences.
- Develop reusable component libraries and enterprise design systems.
- Implement scalable state management solutions using Redux, Context API, or similar frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and responsive design principles.
- Optimize UI performance, browser compatibility, and Core Web Vitals metrics.
Backend API Development & Integration
- Design, develop, and maintain backend APIs and microservices supporting web applications.
- Build and integrate RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, and event-driven architectures.
- Collaborate with backend teams to ensure scalable and secure API designs.
- Define API standards, integration patterns, and service contracts.
- Implement authentication, authorization, and security best practices.
- Drive API performance optimization and observability initiatives.
Application Development & DevOps
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle from design through deployment and support.
- Build cloud-native solutions leveraging Azure, AWS, GCP, or PCF platforms.
- Contribute to CI/CD automation, deployment pipelines, and DevOps best practices.
- Support production systems and lead root-cause analysis efforts for critical issues.
- Drive engineering excellence through automation, testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Blockchain & Emerging Technologies (Desirable)
- Contribute to architecture and development involving blockchain-based applications.
- Collaborate on solutions utilizing Cosmos SDK, blockchain interoperability, and distributed ledger technologies.
- Evaluate opportunities for blockchain adoption within enterprise applications.
- Partner with domain experts to design scalable decentralized architectures.
Hands-on experience developing applications using ReactJS.
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale software architectures.
- Strong experience developing and integrating backend APIs and microservices.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy across multiple engineering teams.
