Brooks Instrument (www.brooksinstrument.com), an industry leader in flow and pressure instrumentation for critical applications, is seeking candidates for a Maintenance Mechanic (2nd shift) position that will be based at the company headquarters in Hatfield, Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia). Hours: 3:00 - 11:30 PM Monday through Friday

Basic Function

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment, machinery, building systems, and facility infrastructure. Provide second-shift maintenance coverage to support safe, reliable, and continuous manufacturing and facility operations.

This position requires the ability to work independently, respond to equipment and facility issues, properly assess hazards, follow established safety procedures, and escalate conditions requiring additional technical or management support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment, machinery, and facility systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, and facility-related equipment within the employee's training and qualifications.

  • Perform minor construction and facility repairs including drywall, demolition, drop ceilings, doors, hardware, and minor electrical repairs.

  • Repair and maintain production and machining equipment such as HAAS machines, CNC lathes, glass formers, pumps, motors, and other manufacturing equipment.

  • Develop a working knowledge of facility systems including HVAC, electrical, compressed air, plumbing, fire alarm, gas detection, building controls/monitoring, and other critical facility equipment.

  • Respond to second-shift equipment and facility issues, alarms, leaks, utility interruptions, and other maintenance requests. Troubleshoot conditions, make equipment or areas safe when appropriate, and escalate significant issues when additional support is required.

  • Follow all company EHS requirements and safe-work procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, electrical safety, machine guarding, ladder/lift safety, hot work, and fall protection as applicable. Stop work and report conditions that cannot be safely controlled or are outside the employee's training or qualifications.

  • Maintain good housekeeping and immediately correct or report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, leaks, missing guards, and other safety concerns.

  • Safely operate and inspect appropriate tools, test equipment, ladders, lifts, forklifts, and material-handling equipment when properly trained and authorized.

  • Complete maintenance work orders and document repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment conditions, and required follow-up work through the company's maintenance management system.

  • Communicate unresolved equipment or facility issues and provide clear shift-turnover information to Facilities/Maintenance management and other team members.

  • Assist outside contractors and vendors as required and support company safety, continuous improvement, 6S, preventive maintenance, and equipment reliability initiatives.

  • Participate in Facilities/Maintenance emergency call-in coverage as required. This may include responding to urgent facility or equipment issues outside of normally scheduled hours, including late nights, weekends, holidays, and facility shutdown periods.

  • During emergency call-ins, assess conditions, make equipment or affected areas safe when within the employee's training and qualifications, perform appropriate repairs, and escalate to Facilities management, EHS, contractors, or emergency services when additional support is required.

  • Regular attendance and the ability to work independently and effectively with others in a team environment.

Education and Experience

Minimum 7-10 years of industrial, manufacturing, or facilities maintenance experience required.

Schedule and Availability

This position is primarily assigned to second shift. Due to the nature of manufacturing and facility operations, the employee must be willing and able to participate in emergency call-in coverage, which may include late nights, weekends, holidays, and other unscheduled hours.

Occasional scheduled overtime, weekend maintenance, and facility shutdown work may also be required.

Tools and Equipment

Must be familiar with common industrial maintenance tools and equipment including hand and power tools, drills, saws, grinders, wrenches, meters, amp probes, come-alongs, jacks, chain falls, slings, machine rollers, Johnson bars, ladders, and machine-moving equipment.

May be required to operate forklifts, aerial lifts, and other powered equipment after completing required training and authorization. Must demonstrate the ability to use tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Physical Demands

The position requires working on approved lifts and ladders, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions. Must be able to move equipment using appropriate material-handling equipment and lift approximately 75 lbs. Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in an industrial/manufacturing environment and may include mechanical rooms, production areas, rooftops, and elevated work areas. The employee may be exposed to noise, temperature variations, operating machinery, electrical equipment, chemicals, compressed gases, and other typical industrial maintenance conditions.

Appropriate PPE and established company safety procedures must be followed at all times.
