Compensation: $110 to $140 Yearly

Our client is looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to lead the accounting and finance function for a privately held company in California. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented finance leader who enjoys balancing strategic oversight with day-to-day operational involvement in a collaborative workplace. The Assistant Controller will partner closely with leadership, guide a small accounting team, and help ensure accurate reporting, sound financial planning, and regulatory compliance.


Responsibilities:

• Direct the company’s accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy across reporting, controls, and daily transactions.

• Oversee core accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, period-end close, and preparation of financial statements.

• Perform and review bank and account reconciliations to maintain reliable records and support informed decision-making.

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis efforts to provide clear insight into business performance and future planning.

• Manage accounting related to fixed assets, depreciation, and parts inventory while maintaining organized supporting documentation.

• Supervise and support a small team that currently includes accounting and payroll personnel, helping prioritize work and maintain efficient processes.

• Coordinate compliance activities involving county and state requirements, rate-related documentation, and other financial reporting obligations.

• Partner with external tax and financial review professionals to provide required information and support periodic reviews.

• Contribute to process improvements and assist with financial system and billing software implementation activities as needed.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or experience equivalent

• At least 6 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including readiness to step into a senior leadership role.

• Strong background in financial statement preparation, month-end close, and general ledger oversight.

• Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and financial analysis.

• Hands-on leadership style with the ability to manage detailed accounting work while supervising a small team.

• Proficiency with accounting software and at least intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.

• Effective communication skills and the ability to work closely with owners, staff, and external advisors.

• Experience in waste management, recycling, transportation, distribution, trucking, or a related industry is helpful but not required.


Compensation

$110,000.00-$140,000.00 Yearly
