Senior Sales and Use Tax Accountant

Compensation: $90 to $100 Yearly

We are looking for a Sale and Use Tax Accountant to support indirect tax operations for a wholesale distribution business in Edison, New Jersey. This role is ideal for a tax specialist who can manage compliance activities, research discrepancies, and provide reliable guidance on sales and use tax matters. The position will play an important part in maintaining accurate filings, supporting audit responses, and strengthening tax processes across the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Provide day-to-day guidance on sales and use tax questions for internal teams and customer-facing situations.

• Manage the intake and upload of manually prepared transaction data into the tax platform to support accurate reporting.

• Compare tax system results against company records, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

• Review monthly indirect tax filings to confirm completeness, accuracy, and compliance with jurisdictional requirements.

• Act as the primary point of contact with the external tax software provider to address issues, updates, and ongoing coordination.

• Complete monthly reconciliations of sales tax general ledger accounts and document findings clearly.

• Submit returns and payments on schedule while maintaining a high standard of accuracy across all assigned jurisdictions.

• Collect, validate, and maintain customer exemption certificates to support compliant tax treatment.

• Prepare property tax filings for applicable legal entities and assist with refund requests, tax corrections, notices, and audit support as needed.


Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in tax, accounting, or a related finance function.
• Working knowledge of accounting functions and core accounting principles.
• Experience preparing or reviewing sales and use tax returns across multiple states.
• Ability to reconcile tax data, identify inconsistencies, and research the source of errors.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel for analysis and reporting.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines for filings, payments, and supporting documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with internal stakeholders, customers, and external partners.

Compensation

$90,000.00-$100,000.00 Yearly
