Director, Virtual Construction

Job Description:

Summary

Harris is seeking a Director of Virtual Construction to lead teams that transform mechanical design and construction through technology, collaboration, and consistent delivery standards. In this highly visible leadership role, you will develop people, improve BIM and VDC practices, and help project teams deliver coordinated, fabrication-ready solutions.

Role Overview

  • Lead Virtual Construction teams and their supervisors, with responsibility for team development, operational leadership, quality, and delivery.

  • Shape and implement scalable BIM and VDC processes that support the fabrication and installation of mechanical systems.

  • Partner across project leadership, operations, preconstruction, fabrication, sales, and marketing to improve how virtual construction supports the business.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry practices that can improve productivity, coordination, prefabrication, and project outcomes.

What You'll Do

You'll guide Virtual Construction leaders and teams as they solve complex coordination, detailing, fabrication, and project-delivery challenges. You'll spend your time developing future leaders, reviewing project needs and deliverables, and partnering with teams across Harris to improve quality and consistency.

You'll also help shape the future of virtual construction by introducing practical standards, technologies, and processes. Whether you are supporting a project team, aligning resources with upcoming work, collaborating with fabrication partners, or presenting to customers, your leadership will help turn virtual design into successful field execution.

  • Coach and mentor VDC managers and leaders while supporting training, professional development, and succession planning.

  • Establish and reinforce quality standards for BIM, VDC, detailing, coordination, fabrication support, and mechanical trade deliverables.

  • Guide the adoption of company and industry practices, including industrialized construction concepts, COBie, and ISO 19650.

  • Align staffing and technical capabilities with project requirements, forecasts, backlog, and delivery expectations.

  • Collaborate with fabrication and construction teams to increase prefabrication and improve design-to-installation workflows.

  • Support BIM execution planning, project specifications, proposals, estimates, budgets, productivity tracking, and technical risk assessment.

  • Represent Harris in customer presentations, proposal efforts, marketing activities, and industry conversations.

Why This Role Matters

  • You'll develop the leaders and technical teams responsible for delivering high-quality virtual construction work.

  • You'll influence standards and technology decisions that improve project execution across Harris.

  • You'll connect design, coordination, fabrication, and installation to create more efficient construction outcomes.

  • You'll help teams anticipate project needs, manage complexity, and implement improvements that can scale across the organization.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Extensive experience in the architecture, engineering, construction, or mechanical trades, including leadership responsibility on mid-sized to large mechanical construction projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of BIM and VDC workflows, mechanical building systems, construction drawings, project documents, design principles, and applicable mechanical building codes.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, developing other leaders, managing change, resolving conflict, and making sound decisions in complex environments.

  • Ability to connect project requirements with staffing, quality, productivity, estimating, budgeting, and technical delivery needs.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, senior leaders, customers, and other business partners.

  • Ability to travel 25% to 50% for projects, training, conferences, and other business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in BIM, VDC, mechanical construction, or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience with HVAC, piping, plumbing, fabrication, facilities management, quality control, construction coordination, task estimating, or document interpretation.

  • Advanced working knowledge of tools such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks Manage, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Autodesk Point Layout, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.

  • Professional credentials or knowledge related to Autodesk Revit, COBie, OSHA 30, or LEED.
