POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Technical Planner Trainee

REPORTS TO: Planning and Execution Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

PAY RANGE: $25.00-$27.00 per hour DOE

FT / PT STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Shipyard(s), Customer facilities

SUMMARY

Assist planning team to develop plans for executing work, identifying technically accurate material for procurement, and writing technical work instructions for the production/execution team. This position also includes conducting on-site reviews of shipboard conditions, proper filing of documentation, providing accurate work status, and other duties as assigned. This is a trainee position, and initial responsibilities and assignments may be limited in scope to promote accelerated competency in specific areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Production Planning and Execution- (Core Function)
  • Assist with structural inspections at designated locations.
  • Obtain IMIA's structural inspector certification.
  • Identify, document and report deficiencies found onboard naval vessels.
  • Work with production team to develop structural plans.
  • Assist in developing work packages for production use.
  • Learn to review work specifications and technical standards to develop work instructions for trades use.
  • Learn to interpret NAVSEA drawings, standards, and specifications.
  • Determine Objective Quality Evidence requirements from guidance documents.
  • Material Planning
  • Learn to develop job material list from technical references and drawings.
  • Learn to determine material and quantities of material required to perform the work.
  • Resolve technical specification conflict or suitable substitutes.
  • Assist purchasing with finding qualified vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • None

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and multi-task.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma, GED.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Most work is performed in a shipyard environment under pressure, fast-paced conditions.
  • Within the shipyard, minimal exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces.
  • May require overtime work 50 to 60 hours per week
