Job Summary
SMSI is seeking a Technical Editor/Writer to consolidate, organize, and edit multiple large-scale Nuclear Safety Basis documents supporting the Nuclear Facility Operations Team at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This position is primarily remote, with occasional onsite travel to LANL as needed.
Responsibilities
- Write, rewrite, and/or edit technical documents such as nuclear safety analysis reports, technical procedure manuals, operational specifications, and related materials.
- Work with engineers, scientists, operators, and safety personnel to gather information and ensure documentation is accurate and actionable.
- Ensure all documents meet quality specifications and adhere to established requirements, including adherence to Department of Energy (DOE) orders and other federal regulations.
Required Skills/ Abilities
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Demonstrated experience in technical editing/writing, with a strong portfolio showcasing instructional guides, manuals, and process documents.
- Knowledge of, or experience with, nuclear facilities operations, nuclear safety, radiation protection, and hazardous materials is essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for producing clear, concise, and accurate documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Capability to organize project documentation using various means (e.g., spreadsheets, databases).
- Capability with MS Office Suite and software packages.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with clients, contractors, and consultants on a day-to-day basis.
- Self-starter with ability to work with limited oversight.
- Candidates must be able to work onsite at LANL as needed.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance .
- Must have a Real ID driver's license.
- Must have high speed, reliable internet access.
Desired Skills
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred but not required:
- Previous experience working at LANL and/or nuclear facilities is preferred but not required.
- Experience writing for nuclear safety is preferred but not required.
- An active or recently inactive DOE Q security clearance or Department of Defense Top Secret clearance is a plus.
Education
