Senior NOC Engineer

Phoenix, AZ 85083, US Temporary
Compensation: $40 to $45 Hourly

We're looking for an experienced Senior NOC Engineer to oversee the monitoring, troubleshooting, and stability of critical network and data center infrastructure in a 24x7 operations environment. With 5+ years of hands-on NOC/network engineering experience, you'll operate as a senior escalation point — driving incident response, root cause analysis, and process improvement across a complex, high-availability network supporting enterprise and hyperscale customers.

This role sits at Level 3+ within the NOC hierarchy: you'll mentor junior engineers, own the toughest tickets, and be a key technical liaison between our facility, customers, and vendors.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor network and system performance, capacity, and availability across a large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure using enterprise monitoring and diagnostic tools
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for Level 1/2 NOC staff — leading root cause analysis (RCA) on complex incidents and driving them to resolution within SLA
  • Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN/QoS systems
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across routing/switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, EIGRP), the OSI/TCP-IP stack, and virtualization platforms (VMware)
  • Lead incident, problem, and change management processes; coordinate with Network Engineering, Facilities, and customer teams during outages or maintenance windows
  • Maintain and improve runbooks, escalation procedures, and shift-handoff documentation
  • Interact directly with capacity owners, equipment vendors, and customers on service-affecting issues, providing clear technical and status communication
  • Support capacity planning, trending, and proactive problem identification to reduce recurring incidents
  • Participate in and help lead a rotating on-call schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required for 24x7 coverage
  • Mentor and train junior NOC technicians/engineers on troubleshooting methodology and tools

Qualifications:

What You Bring

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in a NOC, network engineering, or network operations role, ideally within a data center or colocation environment
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols and technologies: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, EIGRP, VLANs, QoS, VPN
  • Hands-on configuration and troubleshooting experience with enterprise-grade routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of systems administration — Windows, Linux, and virtualization (VMware)
  • Proven experience with monitoring/diagnostic tools and trouble-ticket systems, and driving issues to root cause
  • Strong incident management skills — proven ability to lead during high-pressure, service-affecting events
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable communicating with both technical staff and customers/stakeholders
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule and participate in on-call rotation, including nights/weekends/holidays
  • CCNA or higher (CCNP preferred) or equivalent certification
