Payroll Analyst
Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst for our client, a growing organization in the biotech industry located in San Diego, California. This role will support payroll operations by ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining payroll records, analyzing payroll data, and helping ensure compliance with applicable wage and hour regulations.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience working in payroll systems, and the ability to collaborate with accounting, human resources, and leadership teams in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and review payroll for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Analyze payroll data, earnings, deductions, taxes, and adjustments
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain payroll records and ensure proper documentation
- Support multi-state payroll processing and compliance activities
- Assist with payroll journal entries and account reconciliations
- Partner with HR and accounting teams on employee changes, benefits, and reporting
- Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Prepare payroll-related reports for management and audit support
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and internal controls
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of payroll experience, preferably in an analyst or high-volume processing role
- Understanding of payroll practices, taxes, deductions, and compliance requirements
- Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, UKG, or similar platforms
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
- Ability to reconcile data and investigate discrepancies
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field preferred
- Biotech, life sciences, or regulated industry experience is a plus
Preferred Skills
- Experience with multi-state payroll
- Knowledge of wage and hour compliance
- Familiarity with payroll accounting and general ledger support
- Ability to manage deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Compensation
